Position Description

Title: Government Affairs Associate

Shift/Hours: Full time (9:00 am – 6:00 pm)

Reports To: Vice President, Government Affairs and Government Affairs Manager

Compensation: Salary plus annual performance bonus potential of 7.5% of salary.

Position Overview

The Partnership’s government affairs associate is a new position that will play a key role in realizing the organization’s government affairs priorities. The government affairs associate will support efforts to build and maintain the Partnership’s relationships on Capitol Hill and to advance the Partnership’s legislative agenda. This position will report to the Vice President for Government Affairs and the Government Affairs Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for a developing professional to gain hands-on experience with the legislative process and policy advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work to engage key congressional committees, members of Congress and their staffs in projects, initiatives, public events and other activities sponsored by the Partnership.
  • Help develop the Partnership’s positions on human capital issues and plans to educate key stakeholders on Capitol Hill.
  • Assume responsibility for specific projects as directed by the Vice President for Government Affairs and Government Affairs Manager.
  • Conduct research necessary for congressional testimony, legislative language, key correspondence, position papers, etc.
  • Draft correspondence, memoranda, position papers and other material for internal and congressional audiences.
  • Contribute to the growth and programmatic development of the Congressional Public Service Caucus.
  • Help Government Affairs team cultivate strong relationships among key stakeholders.
  • Contribute as needed to the work of the Partnership’s other teams (communications, education and outreach, research, government transformation, development and administration).
  • Maintain the government affairs database and web page.

Qualifications

Competitive candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the Partnership’s public service mission
  • Familiarity with the legislative process required; relevant work experience in the executive or legislative branches or in a government affairs position preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and to manage multiple and varied assignments
  • Superb writing, research, analytical, and presentation skills
  • Outstanding communication skills and a “can do” attitude
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well on and across teams
  • Ability to work comfortably in a non-partisan environment
