Vice President for Government Transformation
Position Description
The Partnership for Public Service is a dynamic nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to revitalize the federal government by inspiring a new generation of Americans into federal service and by transforming the way government works. To support our goals, the Partnership’s Vice President for Government Transformation manages ongoing operations and consulting engagements with the Government Transformation team. This is a wonderful opportunity for a passionate change agent looking to make a difference in programs that touch the lives of millions of Americans.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the Partnership’s government transformation portfolio, including the following activities: strategize approaches to drive large-scale change in the federal government; foster engagements to improve federal government performance; and coordinate innovative public/private partnerships, government-wide initiatives, hands-on assistance to individual agencies, public information forums, etc.
- Build support for our mission within the corporate community, expanding the membership base of the Partnership’s Private Sector Council (PSC) and leveraging itsmember companies to advise agencies, sponsor activities, and coordinate events.
- Provide guidance on administration of the Partnership’s Annenberg Leadership Institute, sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation – a government-wide initiative to develop high-potential federal employees’ leadership skills through regular seminars and action-learning projects.
- Represent the Partnership’s perspective about management best practices and solutions in policy advice, Congressional testimony, leadership forums, public events, etc.
- As a member of the senior management team, provide organization-wide strategy, vision, and direction toward our goal to be widely recognized as a first-class nonprofit.
- Set goals, objectives, budgets, metrics and operational and strategic plans related to various transformation projects.
- Manage Government Transformation team, including staff development, systems enhancements, and strategic planning activities.
Qualifications
- Significant corporate experience
Hands-on knowledge of transformation challenges, major systems, and management practices
- Knowledge of the federal environment
An understanding of the federal landscape, including its structure, challenges, and key players
- Collegiality and teamwork
Driven to build consensus, with experience working across teams and deploying diverse resources toward crafting and implementing solutions
- Excellent communications and media skills
Ability to make complex subjects understandable, advocate for change, and educate the press and opinion makers (both inside and outside government) about effective management practices
- Strong executive presence
Credibility across sectors, including with captains of industry, federal executives, members of Congress and other national leaders
- Entrepreneurial savvy and creative skills
Demonstrated experience in developing, launching, and managing new ideas, opportunities and businesses
- Collaborative approach to solving problems
Ability to build diverse coalitions for change and bridge communities to drive results
- Supervisory management experience
Team management skills, including effective staff development and leadership
