Jeffrey Swartz
President and CEO, Timberland Company

Jeff Swartz has been president & CEO of Timberland since 1998 and has worked in virtually every functional area of the company since 1986. The company has grown rapidly under the leadership of Mr. Swartz and is consistently ranked as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work for in America, by Fortune magazine. In 2002, Timberland received the Ron Brown Award, a Presidential honor recognizing outstanding corporate leadership and social responsibility.

Mr. Swartz has been at the forefront of Timberland’s groundbreaking private/public partnership with City Year. He joined the City Year Board in 1989 and was the chair of the Board from 1994-2003. Inspired by the young people who invest a year of their life putting idealism to work, in 1992 Mr. Swartz initiated a Social Enterprise Department at Timberland, which includes the Path of Service program for employees, through which Timberland employees receive 40 hours paid leave each year for community service.

In addition to City Year, Mr. Swartz serves on the Board of Directors for Share Our Strength and Honest Tea, and he is a member of the World Economic Forum and the Two/Ten Foundation. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and received his master's degree in business administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University.

As President & Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey Swartz oversees all operations of the Timberland Company, a $1.09 billion global footwear, apparel and accessories brand. Since joining Timberland in 1986, Swartz has served as chief operating officer, executive vice president, senior vice president of international sales and marketing, vice president of operations and manufacturing, general manager of finance, and general manager of Europe. Swartz developed a Social Enterprise department at Timberland, and created a program where all employees receive 40 hours of paid leave to perform community service. This, and many other innovative Timberland programs, led to the Company's selection as one of Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 1997.

Timberland is a national founding sponsor to, and Swartz serves on the board of directors of for, City Year, an urban youth service corps now in ten cities throughout the country.

Swartz received his MBA from Dartmouth's Amos Tuck School and BA from Brown University.
