PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE APPLAUDS REPS. MORAN, CONNELLY AND VAN HOLLEN FOR SES REFORM BILL

WASHINGTON—Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier released the following statement commending Reps. Jim Moran (D-Va.), Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) for championing the Senior Executive Service (SES) Reform Act of 2012:

“Kudos to Reps. Moran, Connolly and Van Hollen for proposing reform of the Senior Executive Service, an issue that is critical to improving the effectiveness of our government. We need a government-wide leadership corps that works together to solve our nation’s most pressing challenges. The reforms outlined in this legislation will ensure that agencies and departments develop the very best talent from within government and attract external talent to hold the top career managerial and policy positions.”

The Partnership continues to advocate for the requirement that SES candidates demonstrate that they have experience working in different agencies, levels of government or sectors—a provision that would create a more seasoned and capable leadership corps with broad managerial experience. Stier has urged Rep. Moran to include this mobility requirement in the bill as it moves through the legislative process.

The Partnership called on Congress to make major reforms to the SES in two recent reports, "Mission Driven Mobility: Strengthening Our Government Through a Mobile Leadership Corps", and "Unrealized Vision: Reimagining the Senior Executive Service", available at ourpublicservice.org.
