Call to Serve Events


The Partnership provides online training and certificates for college and university advisors around federal opportunities. The Partnership also offers Go Goverment webinars designed for career services professionals to share with students and alumni, and free Call to Serve webinars that provide a quick introduction to federal advising.

Federal Advisor Certificate Program

PROGRAM DETAILS

To receive a Partnership for Public Service Federal Advisor Certificate, advisors must demonstrate a commitment to promoting public service opportunities by:

  • Gaining a command of federal hiring process and opportunities
  • Demonstrating active promotion of these opportunities on campus
  • Establishing the capability and commitment to building agency relationships

To obtain the certificate, each participant must complete all events in the following three series:

  1. Go Government Webinar Series
  2. Federal Advisor Training Series: Level I
  3. Federal Advisor Training Series: Level II

Cost

The three series can be purchased together at a discounted rate of $534.00. If you prefer to purchase each series individually, the credits can be applied towards the Certificate requirements but you will not be eligible for the discounted rate.

Go Government Webinars

Who Should Attend

Our job seeker-focused Go Government webinars are designed for career services professionals to share with students and alumni looking for federal opportunities. We encourage campus advisors to register for these sessions and broadcast them to their students and colleagues in a classroom or other venue.

Cost

Individual Go Government webinars are $55 per registration.

Each semester we produce a Go Government webinar series that fulfills one of the requirements for the Federal Advisor Certificate program. The webinar series can be purchased as part of the Federal Advisor Certificate program, as a discounted series, or by individual webinar registration.

Federal jobs aren’t limited to the confines of the Beltway. Discover the various agencies that have well-paying jobs available all over the country, and learn which missions align best with your personal goals and priorities.

Top Tips for Navigating USAJOBS.gov
Wednesday, October 14
2–3 p.m. EST

USAJOBS.gov is the website used to apply for most federal positions. It can be tricky to navigate and uses government terms and acronyms that may be unfamiliar to students. Participate in a tutorial on the application process and USAJOBS.gov to eliminate confusion you may have during this session.

Federal Resume 101
Wednesday, October 21
2–3 p.m. EST

A strong resume is a key element in landing a job, and it’s no different when trying to enter the government. However, federal positions require a more lengthy and detailed resume than most employers do. Learn what elements need to be included, what prior experience should be highlighted and tools you can use to determine additional skills you may need for a certain job.

Federal Advisor Training Series: Level I

Through interactive webinars featuring federal agency representatives, participants gain a better understanding of the federal hiring process, learn how to advise students on federal opportunities and build meaningful agency relationships. Successful completion of the Federal Advisor Training Series: Level I fulfills one of the requirements for the Federal Advisor Certificate program.

Program Benefits

During the training, participants will:

  • Learn about programs for students, where the jobs are in the federal government, and how to navigate the federal application and hiring process
  • Identify leading practices for building agency relationships by leveraging existing college or university relationships and strategically developing new long-term relationships
  • Discuss ways to promote federal service in cost-effective and sustainable ways by involving the whole campus community and building off what has worked at other campuses

Who Should Attend

We recommend this series to career services professionals and faculty who are just beginning to build to knowledge of federal advising. This series is designed to cover the basics of the federal hiring landscape and can also serve as a great refresher for those with intermediate experience in the field.

Cost

The three-session Federal Advisor Training Series is $135 per registration. The series can also be purchased as part of the Federal Advisor Certificate program.

Part I: Advising Students on Federal Opportunities
November 5

Learn how to navigate the federal hiring process and learn more about student programs, where the jobs are and the federal application process.

Part II: Creating Sustainable Public Service Campaigns
November 12

Discuss ways to promote federal service in cost-effective and sustainable ways by involving the whole campus community and building off what has worked at other campuses.

Part III: Building Agency Relationships
November 19

Identify best practices for building agency relationships by leveraging existing college or university relationships and strategically developing new long-term relationships.

Federal Advisor Training Series: Level II

Through interactive webinars featuring federal agency representatives and a one-on-one strategy session, participants have an opportunity to deepen their campus’s connections with agencies and explore topics such as student opportunities in federal service, hiring trends at federal agencies and mission-critical positions. Successful completion of the Federal Advisor Strategy Series: Level II fulfills one of the requirements for the Federal Advisor Certificate program.

Program Benefits

During the training, participants will:

  • Connect with agency representatives and explore topics such as student and entry-level opportunities in federal service, hiring trends at federal agencies and mission-critical positions
  • Gain a more comprehensive and in depth understanding of the current federal hiring landscape
  • Have the opportunity to follow up directly with participating federal agency representatives
  • Develop a customized strategy for federal advising on campus

Who Should Attend

We recommend this program to intermediate to advanced career services professionals who are looking for specialized advice for their federal service promotion on campus and who are ready to build meaningful relationships with the Partnership’s federal agency contacts.

Cost

The Federal Advisor Strategy Package is $250 per registration. The series can also be purchased as part of the Federal Advisor Certificate program.

2015-2016 LEVEL II SERIES

The Pathways Programs
December 9

Make connections with agency representatives while gaining insight on the changing federal landscape and hiring reform. With the new Pathways Programs in effect, this interactive summit will allow a select number of college and university representatives to interact directly with agencies regarding their use of the Pathways Programs in recruiting for internships and entry-level positions.

Mission Critical Careers in Government
February 4

Government agencies cannot achieve their missions without the right talent. Learn more about about federal agencies’ current mission-critical talent needs and hear from agency representatives as they discuss their strategies for attracting mission-critical talent and their top tips for students and jobseekers interested in federal positions.
