Public Service Recognition Week 2023 offers a chance to show your appreciation for our country’s public servants, who have continued to provide critical services to the public in the face of adversity—from new demands to implement major legislation like the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to the shift to new types of hybrid, remote and in-office work.

Below are 10 ideas—small and big, virtual and in person—to help you celebrate:

  • Spread the word about PSRW on social media using the Partnership’s toolkit. Our PSRW website includes printable whiteboard templates on which you can write a message of appreciation to public servants. Take a picture with your message and upload it on social media.

We’ve also put together some materials such as GIFs, thank-you images and more to share before and during Public Service Recognition Week on our website. Feel free to download and share across all your social media platforms!

  • Join our #IServeBecause campaign. Share a tweet or record a video of yourself explaining why you work as a public servant and post it with the #IServeBecause hashtag. You can also take the #IServeBecause survey to help us share your public service story on the PSRW website or in a future blog post.

  • Sign up as a participating organization. When you sign up on the PSRW website, your agency or organization will be added to a list of more than 200 participating organizations—plus, you will get PSRW updates sent directly to your inbox.

  • Host or join an event. You can find a list of events hosted by the Partnership and other organizations to celebrate PSRW, as well as a place to submit your own event

On Friday, May 12, at 11 a.m. EDT, we will be hosting a hybrid panel conversation on what agency leaders are doing to think creatively and innovatively about bringing more young people into government. Featured panelists include: Environmental Protection Agency Public Affairs Officer Melissa Sullivan, Department of Housing and Urban Development Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman and Department of Energy Deputy Secretary David Turk.

  • Join a celebration to recognize the 2023 Sammies finalists. During PSRW, the Partnership will announce the 2023 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals® finalists. These individuals and teams exemplify leadership in innovation and public service and have achieved incredible accomplishments on behalf of the people in this country.

Sammies finalists will be recognized at the first annual Federal Employee Night at D.C. United on Wednesday, May 31. Join us to cheer on D.C. United and the 2023 Service to America Medals finalists who will be recognize at halftime. Use this code for 30% off the ticket price.

  • Post on social media with the #GovPossible toolkit. Pass along your gratitude with a message and card in an easy way! This toolkit is a great resource for posting on your personal or organization’s social media accounts. Download the toolkit to view sample templates and share your posts on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

  • Donate to the Partnership. Supporting public servants is a big part of our mission to build a better government and a stronger democracy. Donations help us develop and connect federal leaders, equip agencies to better serve the people, support public servants and improve public understanding of and trust in government.

  • Learn how to launch a career in public service with GoGovernment. Take a look at our GoGovernment resources to learn more about careers in the public sector, the federal hiring process, agency internship and fellowship opportunities, and more. Explore our practical tips for connecting with the wide range of jobs and organizations in government.
  • Listen to Profiles in Public Service. Tune in to our “Profiles in Public Service” podcast, which shares compelling stories about the federal leaders who drive government’s most important accomplishments and make a positive impact on communities across the country. In an age where people hold negative views on government, the stories we share promise to rebuild public faith in the nation’s largest public organization.
