Federal civil servants play a critical role in serving the country—from ensuring travel and food safety to researching cures for diseases to safeguarding our public lands and much more.

Today, the public servants responsible for this work and the federal funding supporting that work are being targeted, creating risks and harms for communities across the country.

The Partnership is collecting stories to help share the impact of the federal workforce and the consequences to our country and communities as a result of mass firings of federal employees and broad cuts to federal funding.

If you’re a current or former federal employee willing to share about your experience and the impact of your work, a community member seeing the impacts show up in your community, a recipient of government services that have been targeted or someone who is concerned about the state of government and public service, please share your story with us!

If you’re interested in exploring data and stories around the impact of federal workforce reductions, funding cuts and infrastructure closures, check out our Federal Harms Tracker. If you’re a current of former federal employee in need of resources to help you navigate this time of uncertainty, check out our FedSupport Hub.

Which of the following best describes you?

When writing your submission, consider answering the following questions:;

As a former or current federal employee…

  • What drew you to public service?
  • What are/were the most important impacts of your role and work on the public?
  • Can you share a specific example or story that illustrates your impact?;

As a recipient of federal services….

  • How have recent or proposed grant or funding cuts, staffing reductions or agency closures affected you, your community or your ability to carry out your work?
  • What does your community stand to lose if these harms are not reversed? What will the impact be?
  • What delays or disruptions have you experienced with critical services that you or your neighbors rely on — like health care, disaster response, Social Security, veterans’ services or public safety programs?
  • When did a federal worker or agency deliver a service above and beyond for you? What difference did that make in your life?;
  • What programs have been weakened, services have been delayed, or protections have been rolled back where you live?;
