The Partnership’s Federal Advisor Certificate Program teaches college and university advisors how to help students find federal employment opportunities. We also offer Go Government webinars designed for career services professionals to share with students and alumni and free Call to Serve webinars that provide a quick introduction to federal advising.

Who Should Attend

Our Go Government webinars are designed for students and alumni to learn about the federal hiring process. We encourage campus advisors to register for these sessions and gather their students and colleagues in a classroom or other venue to watch together.

Cost

The entire Go government webinar series can be purchased for $149 or $55 each.

Finding Federal Opportunities
March 29
2–3 p.m. EST

This session will feature a panel of federal employees in national security and international relations fields, participants will:

  • Discover the hiring authorities they can use to pursue federal positions, including the Pathways Program and other agency-specific fellowships or volunteer positions
  • Understand how to navigate USA Jobs and identify a vacancy that aligns with their interests and skills

This session will feature a panel of federal employees in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) as well as public health fields, and participants will:

  • Understand best practices on how to make their application and resume stand out
  • Learn about key job announcement information to look out for when preparing their applications

This session will feature a panel of federal employees in Cyber and IT fields, and participants will:

  • Understand the different types of security clearances that are required by different agencies
  • Learn best practices they can use when navigating the clearance process as well as what to expect

Federal Advisor Certificate Program

PROGRAM DETAILS

To receive a Partnership for Public Service Federal Advisor Certificate, advisors must demonstrate a commitment to promoting public service opportunities by:

  • Gaining a command of federal hiring processes and opportunities
  • Demonstrating active promotion of these opportunities on campus
  • Establishing the capability and commitment to building agency relationships

To obtain the certificate, each participant must complete all events in the following three series:

  1. Go Government Webinar Series
  2. Federal Advisor Training Series: Level I
  3. Federal Advisor Training Series: Level II

Cost

The three series can be purchased together at a discounted rate of $534. If you prefer to purchase each series individually, the credits can be applied towards the Certificate requirements, but you will not be eligible for the discounted rate.

Federal Advisor Training Series: Level I

This series of interactive webinars helps participants gain a better understanding of the federal hiring process, learn how to advise students on federal opportunities and build meaningful agency relationships.

We recommend this series to career services professionals and faculty who are beginning to learn about federal advising. This series covers the basics of the federal hiring landscape and serves as a great refresher for those with intermediate experience in the field.

The three-session Federal Advisor Training Series is $135 per registration.

Discuss proven tactics to promote federal service in a cost-effective and sustainable way by involving the whole campus community.

Part III: Building Agency Relationships

Explore two methods to build agency relationships: First, leverage existing college or university connections with federal agencies. Second, identify opportunities to foster new long-term relationships.


Federal Advisor Training Series: Level II

This series includes interactive webinars featuring federal agency representatives as well as a concluding one-on-one strategy session to review key takeaways and develop actionable strategies. Participants will learn how to deepen their campus’s connections with agencies and explore topics such as student opportunities in federal service, hiring trends at federal agencies and mission-critical positions.

Program Benefits

During the training, participants will:

  • Connect with agency representatives and explore topics such as student and entry-level opportunities in federal service, hiring trends at federal agencies and mission-critical positions
  • Gain an in-depth comprehensive and in depth understanding of the current federal hiring landscape
  • Have the opportunity to follow up directly with participating federal agency representatives
  • Develop a customized strategy for federal advising on campus

Who Should Attend

We recommend this program for intermediate to advanced career services professionals. The series provides specialized advice for federal service promotion on campus for those who are ready to build meaningful relationships with the Partnership’s federal agency contacts.

The Federal Advisor Training Series: Level II is $250 per registration.

Part I: The Pathways Programs

Connect with agency representatives while learning about the changing federal landscape and hiring reform. With the new Pathways Programs in effect, this interactive summit will allow a select number of college and university representatives to interact directly with agencies regarding their use of the Pathways Programs in recruiting for internships and entry-level positions.

Mission Critical Careers in Government

Government agencies cannot achieve their missions without the right talent. Learn more about federal agencies’ current mission-critical talent needs and hear from agency representatives as they discuss their strategies to attract mission-critical talent and their top tips for students and jobseekers interested in federal positions.
