Both Trump and Harris are dangerously behind on transition planning

Failure to adequately prepare for governing could put America at risk in a dangerous and unpredictable world.

As Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump do battle during this unpredictable and tumultuous political season, both need to work at breakneck speed to be fully prepared to govern one of the most powerful, complex and important organizations on the planet come Jan. 20, 2025.

Trump recently announced the leadership of his transition team, while it has been reported that Harris has chosen a seasoned transition veteran to head her effort — but both presidential candidates are way behind schedule.

The task ahead for Harris and Trump is monumental, and the time is short to develop policy implementation agendas that mirror campaign promises, draft executive orders, identify as many as 4,000 possible political appointees — including about 1,300 requiring Senate confirmation — and prepare to manage a more than $6 trillion budget and a workforce of 3.5 million civilian and military personnel.
