Introducing the Partnership for Public Service's Federal Harms Tracker

Video Poster
We developed the Federal Harms Tracker to demonstrate what is at stake when the federal government is weakened from within and to illustrate how the consequences of these actions will ripple across communities for years to come. This tracker will map and monitor cuts to federal personnel, funding, programs and services over the course of time, connecting them to stories that reveal how these reductions affect your government, your community and the economy. The Cost to Your Government, the first product of the tracker, focuses on the Trump administration's efforts to shrink and reshape the federal workforce through firings, forced relocations and a "deferred resignation" program. As of Sept. 23, 2025, our data indicates that over 201,000 civil servants have left the workforce, with the largest workforce reductions coming from the departments of Defense, Agriculture and the Treasury. This campaign to weaken the federal civil service has targeted the very people who keep our government running and provide essential services that we all rely on every day, not just in Washington, D.C. but in every U.S. state and territory, and around the world. The rapid loss of institutional knowledge and operational capacity has already begun to affect how, and how well, the government functions.
