Alliance for Congress Applauds Bipartisan Accomplishments of the Select Committee on Modernization

The Alliance for Congress, an initiative from the nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service dedicated to helping Congress work more effectively, today released the following statement after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an increase in maximum salary for House staff members to help Congress recruit and retain outstanding and diverse talent.

“Last week saw two significant bipartisan wins that will strengthen the institution of Congress and help to attract and retain the dedicated and diverse talent that our country deserves,” said Jeff McNichols, director of the Partnership for Public Service’s Alliance for Congress. “Better pay parity for congressional staffers will help to ensure that the legislative branch continues to employ a professional and skilled workforce.”

“In addition, the new Human Resources Hub for the U.S. House of Representatives is a much-needed shared resource that will improve the hiring process and provide consistent and centralized support to staff throughout their careers. We applaud the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress for bringing both parties together on these two reforms, which are critical to helping build a more effective Congress for the people it serves.”

The Alliance for Congress was a nonpartisan initiative that strived to build a Congress that earned the public trust by more effectively listening, leading and legislating, as well as helping the institution invest in its own capacity to tackle big issues and serve the public good.
