PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE STATEMENT ON PARTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

December 21, 2018

WASHINGTON – Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier released the following statement regarding the lapse in funding for roughly 25 percent of the federal government, resulting in a partial government shutdown:

“Keeping our government open and operating effectively is a fundamental responsibility of Congress and the president. Government shutdowns waste enormous amounts of taxpayer dollars, result in lapses in public services, lower employee morale, delay the delivery of vital grants, and prevent agencies from fulfilling their missions. Sadly, our federal workforce and the American people are casualties of Congress and the president’s inability to pass their appropriations bills on time. It is time for our legislative and executive branches to work together to fix this broken process once and for all.”

The partial shutdown comes on the heels of the Partnership and Boston Consulting Group’s release of the 2018 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings, which found that employee engagement across the majority of federal departments, agencies and subcomponents went down. The only comprehensive and real-time performance information available on our federal government, the rankings serve as a report card on the Trump administration’s management of government.
