Partnership for Public Service statement urging the Senate to quickly consider the nomination Bill Valdez to be undersecretary for management at DHS

March 11, 2022

WASHINGTON – The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier urging the Senate to move quickly on Bill Valdez’s nomination to be undersecretary for management at the Department of Homeland Security. The undersecretary for management is critical to making sure the department’s mission is supported by strong and effective management practices for personnel, acquisitions, information technology, property and financial stewardship.

“Bill Valdez’s leadership, vision and expertise in employee engagement throughout his career in government make him an exceptional choice for undersecretary for management at the Department of Homeland Security,” said Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service. “For over two decades, Bill has remained committed to improving government effectiveness and promoting innovative management processes while serving as the president of the Senior Executives Association and as a career executive of the Department of Energy.”

Stier continued, “In his current role, as chairman and co-founder of Alliance of Latinx Leadership and Policy, Bill has demonstrated his commitment to public service and increasing organizational diversity, including encouraging Latinx policy professionals to work in government. I urge the Senate to move forward quickly on Bill Valdez’s nomination.”

The Partnership produces and maintains several other resources to assess and analyze the health of the federal government. These include a political appointments tracker with The Washington Post to follow the progress of nearly 800 of President Biden’s Senate-confirmed political appointments, and the annual  Best Places to Work in Federal Government® rankings, produced by the Partnership and Boston Consulting Group, which measure employee engagement government-wide as well as at individual departments, agencies and subcomponents.
