Ready to Govern

Ready to Govern is a series of 90-minute onboarding sessions designed to help incoming political appointees and federal leaders navigate a complex federal organization, work well as a team and accelerate their ability to make an impact.

As a trusted advisor on presidential transitions and federal leadership development, the Partnership for Public Service is uniquely positioned to quickly get political executives up to speed. Through Ready to Govern, current appointees can participate in up to 11 modules featuring proven content developed from hundreds of conversations with federal leaders. These sessions are led by bipartisan faculty comprised of current or former political appointees and career executives. Using their deep knowledge of the federal government, these experts equip incoming leaders with the information and resources needed to acclimate them to the federal environment and their new roles.

DATES

Onboarding sessions will be held throughout 2021. Sessions can also be tailored for an agency’s leadership team upon request.

COST

Courses provided in collaboration with the Office of Presidential Personnel are offered without cost to appointees. Sessions customized for agencies may require a fee.

AUDIENCE

Senior-level political appointees, including people serving in Senate-confirmed positions, other presidential appointments and non-career Senior Executive Service jobs.

Program Structure

Political leaders may participate in one or more sessions focused on 11 different topics. Each of the 90-minute sessions emphasize the most relevant information that appointees need to do their jobs effectively. Participants will increase their expertise and executive skills by engaging in meaningful conversations with their peers and faculty, absorbing key lessons and best practices, and receiving critical resources needed to implement proven strategies. Political appointees may self-select into these sessions based on their responsibilities and interests.
