PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE STATEMENT CONDEMNING SYSTEMIC RACISM

June 1, 2020

WASHINGTON – Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier released the following statement in response to the events that have once again exposed the racial divide within our country and to emphasize the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

“The systemic racism and inequality that pervades our country and institutions has been painfully evident with the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, by the murder of jogger Ahmaud Arbery in Glynn County, Georgia, and by other routine acts of violence and discrimination against members of the Black community.

This is a traumatic time for the nation. The pandemic and economic crises are affecting all of America, and many of those who are feeling the impact most acutely are members of historically marginalized communities who disproportionately lack health care, have lost jobs or are providing essential services on the front lines of the pandemic with inadequate resources.

There is absolutely no place for hate, violence or inequality in our economic, social and civil systems, or in our workplaces, whether overt or covert. Speaking personally and for the Partnership for Public Service, we emphatically disavow all forms of racism, bigotry and discrimination.

As an organization, we are committed to building a culture of inclusion in which a diverse workforce has equitable opportunities to contribute, succeed and grow, and to creating an environment of belonging in which people with different personal histories, political ideologies, personality types and other attributes are valued and feel like they matter.

We understand that the work of diversity, equity and inclusion is a challenging, continuous journey that demands humility, empathy and growth. And we commit to realizing our vision, measuring our progress, and holding ourselves accountable, both in words and in action.

Our work and the work of the federal government is to serve ALL people of the United States, and we are committed to doing all that we can to ensure that the Partnership and the government meet this standard.”
