Across government, agencies face pressure to perform faster and lower costs while adhering to complicated regulations and ultimately ensuring the public good. From streamlining the approval process for new medical devices to speeding up passenger screening at airports to delivering quality customer service in the disability claims adjudication process, agency leaders are using data analytics to evaluate their programs, solve problems and improve their mission outcomes.
On October 1, the Partnership for Public Service and IBM held a conversation with the Food and Drug Administration, Transportation Security Administration and Social Security Administration about steps they took to analyze their work using data, and how they used data visualization to assess problems and what caused them. Their efforts provided continuous feedback to employees and led to more meaningful training and practical work tools that continue to change behaviors and outcomes.
