Statement on Resignation of FBI Director Wray

The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier on the announcement that FBI Director Christopher Wray will resign by Jan. 20:

“An independent FBI acting with integrity and without political influence is vitally important to the security of our nation. This is one of the reasons FBI directors’ terms last across administrations. Any FBI leader should commit to upholding that principle of independence, being a strong steward of public trust and doing what is right for the agency’s mission and its workforce.

“The professional, experienced and apolitical career workforce at the FBI will continue its critical work, from conducting background checks as the transition unfolds to investigating and stopping criminal activity to keep us all safe.”
