Partnership for Public Service Applauds the Senate for Passage of the Presidential Transitions Improvements Act of 2015

July 30, 2015

WASHINGTON – Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier released the following statement on the Presidential Transitions Improvements Act of 2015, passed by Senate:

“The peaceful transfer of power from one president to the next is a hallmark of our democracy; it is also a time of vulnerability, as one leadership team exits and new leadership steps in.  Our nation’s security depends on advance preparations and a seamless transition.  The U.S. Senate got a jump on early planning with today’s passage of S.1172, the Presidential Transitions Improvements Act of 2015.  S.1172 will modernize presidential transitions by promoting early planning and fostering cooperation between the outgoing and incoming administrations.  Senators Tom Carper (D-DE) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) deserve special recognition for their bipartisan stewardship of this legislation to support a smooth and safe transition, regardless of the election outcome. We urge the House to follow suit and pass S. 1172 upon return from the August recess.”

The nonprofit, nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service, through its Ready to Govern Initiative, seeks to bring together the administration, candidate transition teams, federal agencies, Congress and outside experts to ensure smooth and safe presidential transitions. As part of this work, the Partnership plans to develop a management roadmap for the next administration, engage Congress in promoting reforms to the presidential transition process, assist 2016 presidential candidates and their transition teams and prepare incoming presidential appointees to succeed.
