Partnership for Public Service statement on 2021 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey results

April 28, 2022

WASHINGTON – The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier after the Office of Personnel Management released the 2021 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey results today.

“The Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey is one of the best tools available for understanding the experience of federal public servants,” Stier said. “The results of the 2021 FEVS are particularly important for identifying opportunities to modernize and improve federal workforce management practices, especially as we continue to grapple with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Stier continued, “While the Partnership and Boston Consulting Group will publish its forthcoming analyses of the FEVS data in our annual Best Places to Work in the Federal GovernmentÒ rankings, it is clear that the federal workforce remains resilient and committed to its mission. Our government’s greatest resource is its people and ensuring engagement and workplace satisfaction is critical to government’s effectiveness. We commend the Office of Personnel Management and the entire Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey team for carrying out an extremely important but difficult task during these challenging times.”

The Partnership for Public Service and Boston Consulting Group will use the 2021 FEVS data to develop and publish the 16th edition of the Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings in the coming months.

The Best Places to Work rankings and accompanying data give federal leaders a way to measure employee engagement and other factors critical to the employee experience across the federal workforce, as well as at individual departments, agencies and their subcomponents. The 2020 Best Places to Work rankings included the views of employees from 482 federal agencies and subcomponents on a wide range of workplace topics, including management as it related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the past 20 years, the nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service has been dedicated to building a better government and a stronger democracy. We work across administrations to help transform the way government works by providing agencies with the data insights they need to succeed, developing effective leaders, inspiring the next generation to public service, facilitating smooth presidential transitions and recognizing exceptional federal employees.
