Statement on Passage of Short-Term Government Funding

The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier on passage of legislation that keeps the federal government open and funded into March 2025:

“I am pleased to see Congress fulfill its duties to fund the government, so that Americans can continue to receive the services they expect and deserve. But it is long past time to end the tiring spectacle of using government funding as leverage in policy fights.

“Our government cannot operate effectively or efficiently without stable and predictable funding. The Partnership has long advocated for biennial budgeting, which would allow federal agencies to make longer-range plans, use resources more effectively and better deliver for the public.

“At a minimum, passing annual appropriations bills, on time, should be the expected standard. We simply must do better than these band-aid solutions.”
