2016 Career Achievement Medal: Kathleen Hogan

Tags: Profile

Energy consumption is a vital part of the U.S. economy and of Americans’ livelihoods, but it comes at a high cost—billions of dollars and billions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

During more than two decades in government, Kathleen Hogan has overseen national energyefficiency initiatives, such as Energy Star and DOE’s Better Buildings Challenge, that have made energy conservation an expectation for policy makers, company leaders and consumers. She has shaped federal efficiency standards that by 2030 will lead to 3 billion fewer tons of carbon dioxide emissions and save taxpayers a half trillion dollars.
