2016 Management Excellence Medal: Greg Burel

Infectious diseases from anthrax to Zika, as well as illnesses that may arise from natural disasters or potential chemical or biological terrorist attacks, pose a constant threat to public health and the security of our country.

Greg Burel has made sure drugs and medical supplies are always ready, and emergency personnel have the proper equipment for responding to major health threats. He directs the $7 billion Strategic National Stockpile of antibiotics, antidotes, antitoxins and many other medical and surgical items, and oversees the distribution of these critical reserves to supplement state and local resources during a public health emergency.
