Public servants are the foundation and backbone of our country, and Public Service Recognition Week 2024 offers us a chance to recognize and reflect on all their hard work and accomplishments.

Here are 10 ways you can celebrate public servants this year:

1. Spread the word about PSRW using the Partnership’s toolkit.

Our toolkit makes posting simple and fun, providing you with various resources and templates to raise awareness about the work and achievements of public servants.

  • We’ve also put together some materials, such as GIFs, thank-you images and more to use before and during PSRW. Feel free to download these materials and share them across your social media platforms!
2. Thank a public servant using our gratitude wall.

Do you want to recognize a public servant who has impacted your life? Submit your story. We’ll be sharing your thoughtful notes all month long.

  • Listen to government leaders expressing their gratitude towards our nation’s public servants.
3. Sign up as a participating organization.

When you sign up on the PSRW website, your agency or organization will be added to a list of more than 200 institutions—plus, you will get PSRW updates sent directly to your inbox.

4. Host or join an event.

You can find a list of events hosted by the Partnership and other organizations to celebrate PSRW as well as a place to submit your own event.

  • On Tuesday, May 7, at 1 p.m. EDT, we will be hosting a virtual conversation exploring what federal employees and federal services mean for communities across the country and how this support can reinvigorate faith in our democracy. Register and share today!
5. Recognize our 2024 Sammies finalists.

During PSRW, the Partnership will announce the 2024 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals® finalists. These individuals and teams exemplify leadership in innovation and public service and have achieved incredible accomplishments on behalf of our country.

6. Invite young children to participate.

We’ve created several resources for children to participate in PSRW, including a word search, a “thank-you” coloring sheet and a public servant coloring sheet

7. Donate to the Partnership.

Supporting public servants is a big part of our mission to build a better government and a stronger democracy. Donations help us develop and connect federal leaders, equip agencies to better serve the public and improve public trust in government.

8. Help us improve perceptions of public servants and our government.

Public servants make critical contributions to our country that improve people’s daily lives. Check out our resources to learn how you can communicate these contributions effectively to help improve the narrative around our government.

  • Join us on June 11, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. EDT, for our second annual Trust Summit, which will explore the importance of a nonpartisan, merit-based civil service to ensure an effective and trustworthy democracy.
9. Watch the Partnership’s “Our Government Explained” video series to learn more about public servants and their impact on our country.

Our video series highlights the contributions of public servants and informs the public about important programs and resources provided by federal agencies. Learn how our government is vital to a strong democracy and positively impacts local communities.

10. Listen to and read stories from our public servants.

Tune in to our “Profiles in Public Service” podcast and subscribe to our “Five Stories of Public Service” newsletter, which share compelling stories about federal leaders who drive government’s most important accomplishments and strengthen communities across the country. At a time when people hold negative views of government, the stories we share seek to restore faith in our nation’s largest and most important public organization.
