The Partnership for Public Service is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $10 million grant from Google.org, the company’s philanthropic arm, to support the development of the Partnership for Public Service Center for Federal AI™, a hub dedicated to growing AI literacy and cultivating AI leadership and talent within the federal government. The grant is part of Google.org’s $75 million AI Opportunity Fund, which aims to help 1 million Americans access AI training in their local communities.

Building on more than 20 years of experience convening, inspiring and developing federal leaders—including through our thought leadership, executive communities, leadership development programs and premier AI Federal Leadership Program—the Center will enable the Partnership to solidify its commitment to serving the federal government as it evaluates, integrates and regulates AI.

The Center for Federal AI will formally launch in March 2025 and has a four-pronged approach:
  1. Develop federal AI leaders. Educating federal leaders on how to evaluate AI claims and assess AI use cases will equip them to make informed decisions about AI tools and strategies to better serve the public.
  1. Strengthen federal AI talent capacity. Helping the federal government attract, develop and retain AI professionals and diverse early-career talent will help build the government’s AI capacity.
  1. Empower federal AI community learning and literacy. Providing ongoing, interdisciplinary and cross-sector learning for federal leaders will help increase foundational AI literacy and create opportunities to learn how AI is—and could be—at work on the ground.
  1. Recognize and promote the effective use of AI in the federal government. Celebrating federal agencies that use AI to benefit the public will generate a culture of recognition that drives and reaffirms the responsible implementation of AI in government to deliver for the people.

The Partnership believes AI has the potential to transform the government’s ability to deliver effective and equitable public services. The Center will help make this vision a reality.
