Listen to untold government stories
Presenting #StoriesOfService: a campaign to celebrate and honor the voices of public service.
Each week leading up to the eighteenth annual Service to America Medals gala on October 16, we will share a new track featuring a 2019 finalist’s powerful story of service. Each of these outstanding honorees reflected on their federal journey in conversations facilitated by StoryCorps®, a nonprofit organization with a mission to “preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world.”
First up is Arthur A. Allen: a U.S. Coast Guard civil servant who pioneered and perfected a modeling program that predicts where people lost at sea will be found, cutting search and rescue times and saving thousands of lives during a 35-year career. He sat down with his longtime friend and colleague CDR Rory Fleming to look back on his long career with federal service.
Join us in celebrating this year’s Sammies honorees, and listen to Art’s story here:
Each week, we’ll release a new story on here to celebrate more of government’s untold stories. Stay tuned for our next 2019 Sammies feature with Kristen Finne of the US Department of Health and Human Services.
