Now, for the first time, the Partnership for Public Service has created a new asynchronous eLearning program that packages key strategies and insights on how government agencies can increase employee engagement. Participants in the course, titled From Strategy to Action: Unlocking Employee Engagement in the Public Sector, will work through four modules to learn how to implement an employee engagement strategy that improves workplace culture and performance in government. Our expertise The course is based on the Partnership’s extensive research on employee engagement and more than two decades of experience working with leaders and teams across government to improve their workplaces. For example, a Partnership research brief concludes that Department of Veterans Affairs facilities with stronger employee engagement scores have higher patient satisfaction, lower turnover among registered nurses and better call center performance. In addition, our Best Places to Work in the Federal Government® rankings have gathered insights on what the top-performing public sector organizations do to create a deliberate and sustainable employee engagement strategy. Our approach and curriculum Research from the Aberdeen Group shows that organizations with a comprehensive employee engagement strategy see a 26% improvement in annual revenue increases. That said, the research caveats that these increases do not occur when companies only deploy ad hoc activities to improve organizational culture. Instead, organizations need to employ an intentional employee engagement strategy with clear goals and thoughtful actions to achieve real results. From Strategy to Action takes this intentional approach through four modules. Content Module 1: Listen to Employee Feedback High-performing public sector organizations begin by listening to what employees are concerned about through surveys, focus groups and other data. They then identify priority areas based on trends they find in the data. Content Module 2: Plan Meaningful Efforts Public sector leaders must use their data to plan meaningful interventions that set clear goals and respond to employee concerns. They then develop action plans that they hold themselves accountable for implementing throughout the year. Content Module 3: Act on Your Plans Organizations must consistently act on what they commit to do. By prioritizing intentional stakeholder management and creating clear role division, organizations can achieve great results. Content Module 4: Communicate Your Impact Consistently sharing with employees what you are doing to improve their workplace is fundamental to success. This strategy fosters employee trust in leadership and, as a result, engagement improves.
