Partnership for Public Service calls for overdue long-term funding agreement

January 18, 2024

WASHINGTON – The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier on the passage of a short-term continuing resolution extending the government funding deadlines to early March:

“While we commend Congress for working together to avert a government shutdown, this must be the last stopgap measure for this fiscal year. Repeated last-minute, short-term agreements are no way to fund our government or serve the public interest.

“Once this crisis is resolved, Congress should consider reforms to fix this broken appropriations process. Agencies need certainty to use their resources effectively. And the public deserves a government that responsibly and prudently delivers essential services.”

During the past 22 years, the nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service has been dedicated to building a better government and a stronger democracy. We work across administrations to help transform the way government works by providing agencies with the data insights they need to succeed, developing effective leaders, inspiring the next generation to public service, facilitating smooth presidential transitions and recognizing exceptional federal employees.
