Partnership for Public Service statement in response to reports that DOGE has been disbanded

WASHINGTON – The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier in response to reporting and X comments from Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor that the Department of Government Efficiency has been disbanded as a centralized entity under the United States Digital Service:  

“DOGE’s disbandment eight months early could not have come soon enough. There are many lessons that the Trump administration should have learned from this deeply destructive and wasteful initiative, but the most important is that destroying the nonpartisan federal workforce is the exact opposite approach that our country needs to effectively improve the functioning of our government.”  

“To that end, it is encouraging that the administration appears to be ending its arbitrary and haphazard hiring freeze and reduction targets. It is vital, however, that merit rather than loyalty be the touchstone for the civil service.”
