Partnership for Public Service statement on political violence and assassination attempt of former President Trump

WASHINGTON – The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier on political violence: 

“We strongly condemn the violent attack on former President Donald Trump. Our thoughts also are with the victims of the shooting and their families, and we’re grateful to first responders and law enforcement for their rapid response.

“The failed assassination attempt against the former president and leading Republican presidential candidate must be denounced in the strongest and most unequivocal and absolute terms.  

“Political violence is not acceptable and must not be normalized. Resolving policy disagreements through rigorous debate is a cornerstone of our democracy that must be preserved, and the future direction of our nation must be determined by a truly free and fair election.

“In the wake of this incident and to honor the lives impacted and lost on July 13, our national leaders must seize the moment by calling for unity, by stopping the incendiary and divisive rhetoric, and by reminding our country that we value and deserve a peaceful political process.”
