Our thoughts also are with the victims of the shooting and their families, and we’re grateful to first responders and law enforcement for their rapid response. “The failed assassination attempt against the former president and leading Republican presidential candidate must be denounced in the strongest and most unequivocal and absolute terms. “Political violence is not acceptable and must not be normalized. Resolving policy disagreements through rigorous debate is a cornerstone of our democracy that must be preserved, and the future direction of our nation must be determined by a truly free and fair election. “In the wake of this incident and to honor the lives impacted and lost on July 13, our national leaders must seize the moment by calling for unity, by stopping the incendiary and divisive rhetoric, and by reminding our country that we value and deserve a peaceful political process.” During the past 22 years, the nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service has been dedicated to building a better government and a stronger democracy. We work across administrations to help transform the way government works by providing agencies with the data insights they need to succeed, developing effective leaders, inspiring the next generation to public service, facilitating smooth presidential transitions and recognizing exceptional federal employees.
