Statement from the Partnership for Public Service on the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance

January 20, 2025

WASHINGTON – The nonprofit, nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier on the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance:

“The Trump administration begins at a time of profound challenges for our country, and our government’s role in delivering services essential to the public’s safety and daily life has never been greater.

“To meet these challenges, President Trump will need a highly competent team of leaders in place quickly—people who are true to their oath to defend the Constitution and the rule of law and to serve the public good.”

“The Senate holds a pivotal responsibility in evaluating and confirming nearly 1,300 political appointees for these key leadership roles. It is vital that the Senate has full information, including FBI background checks and certifications from the Office of Government Ethics, before moving forward.”

Stier continued, “Looking ahead, the Trump administration’s newly confirmed political appointees should work in close consultation with the career civil service from day one. These apolitical employees provide continuity and stability across presidential administrations, and have the knowledge and expertise incoming leaders need to implement informed policy agendas. This collaboration is critical for agencies to execute their missions and, ultimately, serve the public most effectively.”

The Partnership produces and maintains several resources to assess and analyze the health of the federal government:

  • Political Appointee Tracker: The Partnership, in collaboration with The Washington Post, tracks the progress of approximately 800 of Trump’s Senate-confirmed political appointments, offering a real-time view of the administration’s staffing efforts.
  • Best Places to Work Rankings: The annual Best Places to Work in the Federal Government® rankings provide key insights into employee engagement and satisfaction across the federal government, down to individual departments, agencies and subcomponents.
  • Agency Performance Dashboards: These concise snapshots of 33 federal agencies and departments offer an overview of the workforce, employee experience, budgetary resources and information-technology maturity.

During the past 24 years, the nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service has been dedicated to building a better government and a stronger democracy. We work across administrations to help transform the way government works by providing agencies with the data insights they need to succeed, developing effective leaders, inspiring the next generation to public service, facilitating smooth presidential transitions and recognizing exceptional federal employees.
