Partnership for Public Service applauds re-introduction of Inspire to Serve Act
May 5, 2021
“Employers of choice cannot spend decades without modernizing their personnel systems, but that’s exactly what has been done by our federal government. The Inspire to Serve Act sets forth bold actions that will help the federal government recruit and hire highly skilled, capable civil servants needed to meet the increasingly complex challenges facing our nation.”
“The Partnership for Public Service applauds Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) and other members of both parties for re-introducing this important bill, which would implement the recommendations made last year by the bipartisan National Commission on Military, National and Public Service. Congress should move quickly on these common-sense proposals.
“The Inspire to Serve Act would strengthen how our federal government attracts and hires talent, particularly those under 30 who today make up less than 7% of the federal workforce. The legislation includes the creation of sustainable talent pipelines through internships and fellowships along with provisions to improve the development, management and retention of federal employees.
“The past year has shown the dedication and resiliency of federal workers, who shifted quickly to a largely remote work environment while also introducing many other innovations in the way the government does business. We should build on this momentum by passing the commission’s recommendations, which represent a once-in-a-generation chance to transform and revitalize the federal workforce.”
The Partnership for Public Service is proud to have contributed to the national commission’s understanding of federal workforce. In 2018, the Partnership and The Volcker Alliance jointly submitted recommendations to the commission on federal civil service modernization and testified before the commission on how to improve federal hiring.
