PARTNERSHIP FOR PUBLIC SERVICE STATEMENT ON 2018 FEDERAL EMPLOYEE VIEWPOINT SURVEY RESULTS

WASHINGTON – Partnership for Public Service President and CEO Max Stier released the following statement regarding the results of the Office of Personnel Management’s 2018 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey – a vital tool for federal leaders to understand the experience of their employees.

“An engaged, motivated workforce is critical to a well-functioning government and to meeting the enormous challenges we face as a nation. Agency leaders must take ownership of the health of their organizations, using the federal survey data to better understand and address the issues of greatest concern to their employees.

“While there has been progress in employee engagement during the past few years, the government still lags well behind the private sector. All agencies, from the top performers to those doing poorly, need to focus on improving the management of our government’s most important asset—its employees. Thank you to OPM and the entire Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey team for the vital work that goes in to making the annual undertaking possible.”

The 2018 results released by OPM do not include data from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which chose to opt out of the FEVS and independently survey its employees. The VA, representing nearly one-fifth of the full-time, permanent non-seasonal federal workforce, has provided its survey data to the Partnership and this information will be included in their 2018 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government® rankings.

Designed to alert federal leaders to signs of trouble and provide a roadmap to better manage our federal workforce, the Best Places to Work rankings will be released later this year and are based on data from the annual federal employee survey. For more information, visit bestplacestowork.org.
