There is no one on earth better equipped to know what is right, wise, and good for your one precious life, so own that power, and befriend the whispering voice within and be prepared to ask yourself over and over, “What is the next best right action, now?” Once you develop this level of agency and trust yourself intrinsically you can confidently apply the same principles of effectiveness to your role as leader and steward of an enterprise.
Jan Boxer is an expert in leadership, relational effectiveness and the unique development needs of rising women and minority leaders. In addition to coaching hundreds of senior leaders and their teams over the last 30-plus years, she has become a trusted advisor to those involved in leading and communicating large-scale change in some of the nation’s most highly visible and highly scrutinized organizations. Jan’s experience is far reaching—she has coached global leaders managing complex stakeholder webs and international workforces. Jan’s typical client is stepping into an expanded role with higher stakes and is likely building and managing a newly forming or struggling team that must produce results quickly.
She teaches clients how to elevate their “presence”—typically by helping them smooth their rough edges or express themselves in more compelling ways. Her goal is to increase their relational confidence, composure, briefing/presentation skills, strategic agility and success rate influencing enterprise decisions.
The teams and groups she works with report increased comfort with difficult conversations, reduced conflict, more optimism and unity, a clearer shared vision, and a commitment to transparency and mutual accountability. Her former clients often call her for help with career transitions, handling sensitive personnel issues or the “most important presentation of their lives.” Jan is also routinely asked to support leaders facing the stress of an internal federal agency investigation.
Jan believes the best way to work with leaders is to help them slow down, gain awareness, notice the effects of their words and actions, and tap into the highest part of their selves. She aptly sniffs out hidden truths, asks penetrating questions and relies on her sharp observational skills. It is her candor, humor and nuanced feedback that helps her clients to quickly develop insight, untie knots, replace limiting beliefs and position themselves for competitive advantage.
