Every day, the federal government meets pressing public needs—delivering and developing lifesaving medical treatment, protecting the environment, responding to natural disasters, ensuring our food is safe to eat, defending us from threats at home and abroad, and more.

Yet for too many Americans, this vital work remains a mystery. They notice government when it fails, but not when it succeeds.

This lack of recognition has enormous implications for the public. When people lose faith in government, they stop trying to constructively influence its actions and policies. As a result, government becomes less accountable and responsive to us all. Overlooking government’s critical role and many achievements also hurts its brand, driving critical talent away from federal service.

At the Partnership, we highlight, disseminate and promote government’s untold success stories to mobilize Americans toward a better understanding of why government matters and what is at stake when it falls short or is undermined.

Our flagship recognition programs showcase the achievements of civil servants for a national audience, while our public engagement campaigns introduce people across the country to compelling stories of government’s role and impact.

Service to America Medals®

The Service to America Medals® is the premier awards program honoring excellence in the federal workforce. Through these awards, we seek to inspire people to public service, reignite trust in government and move agencies to recognize their own public servants, incentivizing better performance. Since its inception in 2001, the Sammies have honored more than 800 public servants for their accomplishments.
