Federal employees are responsible for inspiring accomplishments that are seldom recognized. This lack of recognition has serious implications for our democracy, with public opinion polls showing that most Americans distrust our government and do not fully appreciate its vital role in our lives.

For 25 years, the Service to America Medals® program, or the Sammies, has filled this gap by honoring federal workers who make our nation safer, stronger, healthier and more prosperous.

As the premier awards program for federal employees often called the “Oscars of public service,” the Sammies has honored more than 800 career civil servants since 2001.

By shedding light on the stories of these extraordinary honorees, we strive to show how our government makes a difference in our lives, inspiring a renewed trust in the public institution most critical to our democracy.
