WASHINGTON – The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier on Congress passing a continuing resolution to fund the government until Dec. 11, 2026:
“Passing a continuing resolution is certainly preferable to a government shutdown, but this band-aid approach is not the way to run our government efficiently or effectively long-term.
“Because a continuing resolution is merely a stopgap measure, agencies must still grapple with uncertainty as they plan for a future potential shutdown later this year. This means they cannot focus fully on maximizing effective public service delivery, and after the longest and most costly shutdown in history last year, the American people simply cannot afford for lawmakers to keep using their government as a bargaining chip.
“The appropriations process remains deeply broken. The public should be able to count on their government to fully serve them without disruption or exception, and Congress must pursue reforms to take shutdowns fully off the table for good.”
